Rail3dWiki — Home Page

This is the home page of the Rail3d Wiki. On this site Rail3d users can find things that aren’t in the official manual (yet), tips and tricks, and whatever else you feel like adding.

Starting Points

  • Tutorials — tips and articles demonstrating ways of using Rail 3 D
  • SignalsRail 3 D users tackle thorny problems involving coloured lights and spiky finials…
  • Docs — developing documentation for new features
  • Projects — users’ layouts and rolling stock
  • Miscellaneous — other stuff that doesn’t fit in anywhere else
  • PmWiki.Quick Start Guide for Editing — one-stop introduction to creating a new Wiki page

All users of Rail3d should feel free to contribute to this site. Just let the Rail3d Group know what you intend to do, and we will give you access. There are a few simple Guidelines For Content that you should bear in mind. Have a look at the Frequently Asked Questions as well.

It is very easy to edit a page — see Basic Editing for instructions to get you started. If you would just like to try out a bit of editing where it can’t do any harm, please go to the Wiki Sand Box area to practice first.

What’s New on the Wiki?

Admin notes

13 April 2008: Updated to pmwiki-2.2.0-beta65 (PmWiki:ReleaseNotes) — please report any problems.

08 December 2006: — This home page can from now on only be edited by an Admin, since spammers seem to target it most often. The rest of the site remains open for editing by all Rail3d users.

25 October 2006: Handy hint — the Firefox 2.0 browser, just released, has built-in spell checking, which should make it easier to correct your contributions to the Wiki.

11 September 2006: Updated to PmWiki 2.1.26 (PmWiki:ReleaseNotes) — please report any problems. (this update seems to have stopped table formatting from working — now fixed again.)

25 March 2006: Due to recent Spam attacks, I’ve had to turn on URL Approvals again. If you add or edit a page, any new external links to domains not listed on Approved URLs will be inactive until they’ve been checked by an admin. Sorry for the inconvenience — blame the spammers.

22 March 2006: One thing that has changed with the upgrade: the link for the rss feed now points to Site.AllRecentChanges not Main.AllRecentChanges. If you monitor the feed you may have to update your bookmarks, otherwise you will miss changes that are not in the Main group. See PmWiki.RSS for more details.

17 March 2006: Upgraded to PmWiki 2.1 — ReleaseNotes — Please report anything that isn’t working as it used to!

17 October 2005: You can now use the Img: markup to force thumbnailing of images—the thumbnail has a link to the larger version of the image. Full details on PmWiki:Cookbook/ImagesAutoResizing — See Richard and Alan’s Project GWR page for an example of “best practice”.

7 October 2005: Do you long for the Wikipedia look? Dominique Faure’s Monobook skin is now available for this Wiki — click here to try it or try one of the other skins in the menu on the left.

9 July 2005: Tutorials index has been reorganised by topic categories; you can now browse comfortably through the Tutorials and Projects pages using WikiTrails. Added new Quick Start Guide for Editing page.

16 June 2005: Have a look at the new Signals area, and add your own notes on signalling, signal modelling and signal scripting.

24 February 2005: this site has migrated from Open Wiki to PmWiki. Old users, please see the Moving to PmWiki page for a summary of changes in the new implementation.

Currently running pmwiki-2.2.36
